Sounds a lot like a problem I had about a year ago, that started happening shortly after I updated my chip-set and network card drivers. Not sure if one would have anything to do with the other, but the new drivers were really the only thing that had changed, making it the most logical place to start troubleshooting.
I completely removed the Xitami service, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, rebooted, then reinstalled the Xitami service, LAST. The problem hasn't happened since.
